I think the contemporary era has made people more superficial because they have forgotten about things that really matter such as principals, values and feelings. Men want to have the most beautiful woman with the most slender body, the most luxurious cars, biggest mansions and a massive amount of money. Women want to be the most beautiful in their neighborhood, country or even the world and because of this they modify their bodies with plastic surgery, and they're always following the next fashion tendency. Nowadays people don't choose a partner because of their values, virtues or intelligence, but because of their physical appearance or material wealth. Also, telecommunications have prevented people from having real human contact.
